Greetings Ambassadors,
UNLV has started accepting applications for the Fall 2023 Student Interactions with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (SISTEM) program. This is a unique and free opportunity open to all high school students who already have an interest in STEM careers or would just like to learn more about careers in STEM. In order to apply for SISTEM, the applicant must be a high school student in Nevada. Students should be committed to attending all five sessions. This year's Fall 2023 SISTEM program will run on Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7:15 pm from October 12th until November 9th. There will be five sessions in total. The series will be held on the UNLV campus (4505 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89154). Transportation is the responsibility of the student. If you need assistance with transportation, please contact the SISTEM program manager. Students may choose to attend SISTEM virtually if they are not within driving distance of UNLV or prefer not to be on the campus. In addition, the number of students who can attend in person will be limited. Those not accepted for the in-person program may opt to attend virtually. Applications will be accepted until September 30th. Application decisions will be made and students will be notified by October 5th. For your application to be considered complete, please mail in your Parent Agreement form via USPS and postmarked by the application deadline. Or you can scan and email your documents to the SISTEM program manager, Yanai Avila, at sistem@unlv.edu so long as the documents are received by the deadline. If accepted to the program, you will be provided with a link for registration, and there will be a Health Form and Liability Form to complete. This is a competitive application process; completion of the application does not guarantee acceptance. Therefore, please provide thoughtful responses to the questions in the application. If you are unable to complete the application on time, please reach out to the SISTEM Program Manager. The application and Parent Agreement form are found on the right-hand side of the SISTEM website, https://solarnexus.epscorspo.nevada.edu/sistem/ Review the attached flyers for additional information and contact the SISTEM Program Manager for questions via email at sistem@unlv.edu or phone at (702) 680-5271 OR the SISTEM Director via email at erica.marti@unlv.edu or phone (702) 895-2693. You may also refer to the FAQs on the SISTEM website.

STEM programs like this are such a great opportunity for students to build new skills, especially when it comes to handling research and writing. I remember working on a science project that required a detailed essay, and figuring out how to organize my ideas was tough. That’s when I came across this guide https://cabina.ai/blog/how-to-use-chatgpt-to-write-an-essay/ which gave me some really helpful tips for structuring my thoughts and improving my writing flow. It made the whole process way less overwhelming, which was a huge relief. Definitely a game-changer for tackling complex topics!
