Media Arts & Communication

While following the Nevada Career and Technical Education's Program of Study for certification in Multimedia Communications, Las Vegas Academy's Media Arts and Communications major is unique when compared to other programs. Students will gain hands-on experience in journalism and publication while specializing in graphic design, video production, or photography.

Across the four years of the program, students will be able to complete up to three CTE programs, and they will gain real life experience and employability skills as they write for the school news website, contribute to our social media accounts, design our yearbook, and work with the conservatories to create the marketing materials for showcases and performances.

The Media Arts and Communications students learn to pitch ideas, exercise their creativity, work collaboratively, speak and write professionally, work with clients, and meet deadlines

Program Curriculum

No other graphics program allows students to take advanced elective courses in digital imagery for three years, including the Advanced Placement 2D Portfolio for dual credit and college entry, but also a graphic arts internship at an in-house printshop. Working for other departments within the school, students design and produce large advertisments with a 60" printer and laminator, custom design 3D prints, engrave awards, screenprint tshirts, and dye sublimate mugs. ACA certifications are made avaialbe to students who wish to pass the test for Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Program Outcome

The Graphic Design program aims to establish a student portfolio for college acceptance and scholarship opportunities. Those who choose to continue with graphic design have been accepted at schools like Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, School of Visual Arts, Pacific Northwest Art School, and Art Center of Design.

Students who have selected different majors in college attribute their success to the skills learned while in the graphic design program, like reading digital imagery in a radiology program, successfully acquiring technical assistant positions in college because they practiced interviewing while competing at SkillsUSA State Competitions, and understanding visual identity and branding while majoring in marketing or journalism.

Certifications and skillsets within the Adobe Creative Cloud software, plus collaborative projects working in a team in the printshop, have gained many graduates high level positions right out of high school at businesses like Kinkos and social media promotion departments at their colleges.
